Douglas, George, 16th Earl of Morton (1761 -1827)
George Douglas was the eldest son of Sholto Charles, 15th Earl of Morton, and Katherine daughter and coheir of the Hon. John Hamilton. Succeeding his father in 1774, he was a Knight of the Thistle, Vice President of the Royal Society, and was created Baron Douglas of Lochleven in the peerage of Great Britain 11 August 1791. He married Susan Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Frances Buller, Baronet, in 1814, but they had no children, and on his death the Earldom passed to his cousin, George Sholto Douglas. The Library of George Douglas, 18th Earl of Morton was sold in London by Wheatley & Adlard 18 May 1829.
