Douglas, William (1768 -1818)
The Reverend William Douglas was the only son of the Reverend Dr John Douglas, of St George's in Middlesex, Bishop of Carlisle 1787 1791 and Salisbury 1791 1807, and his second wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Brudenell Rice Rooke. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated 7 July 1785, aged 16, he took his B.A. in 1789, and his M.A. in 1792. He was Vicar of Gillingham, in Dorset, Canon and Precentor of Salisbury, Chancellor of Salisbury, and a Prebendary of Westminster. He married Ann, daughter of Baron de Brackel, of Yverdon in Switzerland. His library of nearly 3,000 books was sold at auction by Sotheby's 10 December 1819.
