Egerton, George Granville Francis, 2nd Earl of Ellesmere (1823 -1862)
George Granville Francis Egerton was the eldest son of Francis Henry Egerton, 1st Earl of Ellesmere, and Harriet Catherine, elder daughter of Charles Greville. He was admitted to Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated 26 May 1841, aged 16, married, 29 April 1846, Mary Louisa Campbell, daughter of the 1st Earl of Cawdor, was Member of Parliament for North Staffordshire from 1847 to February 1851, and succeeded his father as 2nd Earl of Ellesmere in 1857. The larger part of the family library is now in the Henry E. Huntington Library, San Marino, California.
