Fitzroy, George Henry, 4th Duke of Grafton (1760 -1844)

George Henry Fitzroy, 4th Duke of Grafton, was the eldest son of Augustus Henry, 3rd Duke, and his first wife, Anne Liddell, daughter and sole heir of Henry Lord Ravensworth. He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was admitted 11 November 1776, and took his M.A. in 1779. He married, 16 November 1784, Charlotte Maria Waldegrave, second daughter and heir of James, 2nd Earl Waldegrave. Elected Member of Parliament for Cambridge University 1784 1811, he succeeded his father in 1811, and was Lord Lieutenant, Vice Admiral, and Custos Rotulorum of Suffolk, and Colonel of the West Suffolk Militia. He was made a Knight of the Garter 20 December 1834. He sold a large part of the library of the 3rd Duke in 1815, and some of his own books were among those sold by the 8th Duke in 1921.
