Goddard, Francis (1592 -1652)
Francis Goddard, of Standen Hussey, Cliffe Pypard and Albourn, was the eldest son of Thomas Goddard of Clyffe Pypard and his first wife Dorothy Stephens. His grandfather, John Goddard of Upham had married as his second wife Alice daughter of Thomas Goddard Esq. of Ogbourn St George. Francis succeeded his father in 1609, was High Sheriff for Wiltshire in 1635 and married Sarah daughter of Sir Anthony Hungerford of Black Burton in Oxfordshire. They had two sons and three daughters. His full arms are: Quarterly 1 and 4. Gules a chevron vair between three crescents argent. (Goddard) 2 and 3. Azure five fusils in fess between three eagles heads erased or (Goddard of Ogbourn St George); crest a stag's head couped affronty; motto: cervus non servus.)
