Greisley, Roger, Sir, 8th Baronet (1799 -1837)
Sir Roger Greisley of Drakelowe, 8th Baronet, was the elder son of Sir Nigel Bowyer Gresley, 7th Baronet, and his second wife, Maria Eliza, daughter and heir of Caleb Garway, of Worcester. He succeeded his father in 1808. He entered Christ Church, Oxford 17 October 1817, and remained there until 1819, but did not take a degree. He was elected Member of Parliament for Durham in 1830, for New Romney in Kent in 1831, and for South Derbyshire 1835 1837, and was a Captain in the Staffordshire Yeomanry and Groom of the Bedchamber to the Duke of Sussex,. He was also yhe author of several books. In June 1821, he married Sophia Catharine Coventry, youngest daughter of George William, 7th Earl of Coventry. Their only child, a girl, died in infancy, and on his death in 1837, the baronetage passed to his kinsman, William Nigel Gresley, the descendant of the second son of the second Baronet. His library was sold at auction by R.H. Evans in London 22 May 1838.
