Grenville-Brydges-Chandos, Richard Temple Nugent, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Chandos (1776 -1839)

Richard Grenville, 2nd Marquess of Buckingham, was the eldest son of George Grenville Nugent Temple, 1st Marquess of Buckingham, and Mary Elizabeth Nugent, Baroness Nugent, eldest daughter and heir of Robert, 1st Earl Nugent. He married, 16 April 1796, Anne Elizabeth Brydges, daughter and heir of the last Duke of Chandos, and Baroness Kinloss in her own right, and assumed the additional name and arms of Chandos. In 1822 he was created Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, and made a Knight of the Garter. The large library collected by himself and his successor at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire was sold at auction by S. L. Sotheby & Co 8 January 1849, the sale taking 24 days.
