Harris, James Edward, 2nd Earl of Malmesbury (1778 -1841)

James Edward Harris, 2nd Earl of Malmesbury, was born 19 August 1778, the son of James Harris, 1st Earl of Malmesbury and Harriot Mary, younger daughter of Sir George Amyand Baronet. He was Member of Parliament for Helston 1802, and for Heytesbury in 1807, a Lord of the Treasury 1804, Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs 1807, and Governor of the Isle of Wight 1807-1841. He married, 17 June 1806, Harriet Susan, daughter of Francis Bateman Dashwood of Well Vale Lincoln. He succeeded his father 21 November 1820, died 10 September 1841, and was succeeded by his eldest son James Howard Harris, 3rd Earl. Books from his library were sold in London in 1929.
