Hill, Mary, Marchioness of Downshire (1764 -1836)
Mary, Marchioness of Downshire, was the daughter of Martyn Sandys, second son of the 1st Baron Sandys, and of Mary Trumbull. She married Arthur 2nd Marquess of Downshire in 1786. He died in 1801 and she, who had succeeded to the estates, but not the title, of her uncle Edwin 2nd Baron Sandys in 1797, was created Baroness Sandys of Ombersley with remainder to her four younger sons by the Marquess of Downshire in 1802. Books from her library were sold at Sotheby's 7 May 1951 "with the crown and monogram of Mary Marchioness of Downshire and Baroness Sandys stamped in gilt on top of the spine".
