Hill, Thomas (1813 -1888)

Thomas Hill was the eighth and youngest child of Robert Hill, Writer to the Signet (1771 1842), and Margaret Geddes. He married Jessie Wardrop and had thirteen children including Thomas Alexander Hill, their fourth child and second son, who was Colonel of the 12th Royal Lancers. The crest and motto were granted to their ancestor, Ninian Hill of Lambshill, with the arms Azure a hill or with the sun in his splendour rising over the top thereof. Lyon Register 19 July 1676.
