Hungerford, George (1637 -1712)

George Hungerford was the second son of Edward Hungerford of Cadenham in Wiltshire. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated 31 March 1653, and was a student at Lincoln's Inn 1656. He was elected Member of Parliament for Cricklade 1661 1678, for Calne 1678 1681 and for Wiltshire 1695 1701. He is said to have been knighted at the coronation of Charles II, but no George Hungerford is recorded as having been knighted on that occasion, though Sir Edward Hungerford was, and a Sir Giles Hungerford of Calne in Wiltshire was knighted at Whitehall 27 November 1676.
