Lindsay, William Alexander (1846 -1926)

William Alexander Lindsay was born 8 June 1846, the eldest son of The Honourable Colin Lindsay, barrister at law, and Frances, elder daughter and coheir of William Forward Howard, 4th Earl of Wicklow. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was called to the bar in 1873, and became Queen's Council 1897, a bencher of the Middle Temple, 1906, Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms 1882 1894, Windsor Herald 1894 1922, Norroy King of Arms 1919 1922, Clarenceux King of Arms 1922 1926, and a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant of Devon. He married, 7 May 1870, Harriet Gordon, second daughter of the 5th Earl of Aberdeen. He died 13 September 1926, and his library was sold at auction by Sotheby's 14 February 1927.
