Lockhart, Archibald Inglis (1810 -1879)

Archibald Inglis Lockhart was the fifth son of the Reverend Dr John Lockhart, and his second wife, Elizabeth, daughter of the Reverend John Gibson, Minister of St Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh, and a younger brother of John Gibson Lockhart, the son in law and biographer of Sir Walter Scott. He was commissioned an Ensign in the 92nd Foot 31 December 1828, and commanded a field force in Central India in 1858. He held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel from 1857 to 1865, when he was placed on half pay. He was made a Lieutenant General in 1877 and a Companion of the Bath.
