Meek, George (1801 -1859)

This stamp was certainly used by George Meek as his armorial bookplates testify. The arms in the first quarter are those of Scudamore, with quarterings down to the marriage of Philip Scudamore to the daughter and heir of Osborn of London in the fifteenth century. George Meek, of Brantridge Park, was the eldest son of John Meek of Homerton in Middlesex and Mary Britten. He succeeded his father 15 February 1815. He married, 15 March 1826, Amelia, daughter of Samuel Weston Esq. of Weymouth. He died 8 December 1859 leaving an only surviving son, George.
