Paston, Robert (1631 -1683)

Robert Paston was the son of Sir William Paston, 1st Baronet of Oxnead in Norfolk, and his first wife Lady Katherine Bertie, daughter of Robert Bertie, 1st Earl of Lindsey. He was educated at Westminster School and Trinity College Cambridge. Knighted in 1660,  he was elevated to Viscount Yarmouth 1673, and in 1679 was created Earl Yarmouth.

He took a keen interest in science, and in 1663 was elected as an Original Fellow of the Royal Society.  A manuscript of Chemical experiments, medical remedies and domestic recipes was likewise bound for "R R" / "R A R" by Queen's Binder A (William Nott?); this was sold at Bonham's London, 19 March 2013.

In 1650 he married Rebecca Clayton daughter of Sir Jasper Clayton, Haberdasher, of London, and raised a large family of six sons and three daughters.
