Peyton N/A

It is difficult to assign these arms to a particular member of the large Peyton family, but the most likely candidates are Sir John Peyton (1561-1616), or Sir Edward Peyton (1588?-1657).

Sir John Peyton (1561-1616) was the eldest son of Robert Peyton of Isleham, and Elizabeth Rich, daughter of Richard Rich, 1st Baron Rich of Rochford Hall and Leigh's Priory, Essex.  He succeeded to the family estates on the death of his father in 1590.  He was elected Member of Parliament for Cambridgeshire  in 1593, and the following year was appointed High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire.  He was knighted 1 November 1596, and created baronet in 1611. Peyton married Alice Osborne, daughter of Sir Edward Osborne, Lord Mayor of London in 1580 and had six sons and five daughters. He was succeeded in the baronetcy by his son Edward.

Sir Edward Peyton (1588?-1657) was the eldest son and heir of Sir John Peyton of Isleham, Cambridgeshire, and Alice, daughter of Sir Edward Osborne. He was educated at Bury school and at Cambridge. On his marriage in 1604 his father gave him the manor of Great Bradley, Suffolk. He was knighted at Whitehall on 4 February 1610/11, and on 16 August 1611 was admitted to Gray's Inn. On his father's death in 1616 he inherited the baronetcy and the family estates at Isleham.  Elected MP for Cambridgeshire in 1621, he remained in that post until 1626, when Charles I dissolved Parliament. A staunch Puritan, he fought for the Parliamentarians during the Civil War, and was present at Edgehill, Newbury, and Naseby. His military exploits so impoverished him that he had to sell Isleham. He married three times, firstly in 1604 to Martha Liveset, who died in 1613. Secondly, in 1614 he married Jane, widow of Sir Henry Thimblethorpe, the daughter of Sir James Camhorpe, of Cockthorpe, Norfolk.  He married thirdly Dorothy Minshaw in 1638.  The precise date of Sir Edward’s death is uncertain, but he was certainly deceased by 3 December 1657.  He was succeeded to the baronetcy by John, the son of his first wife.
