Smith, Robert John, 2nd Baron Carrington (1796 -1868)

Robert John Smith was the eldest son of Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington, and Anne, daughter of Lewyns Boldero Barnard of South Cave in Yorkshire. He was Member of Parliament for Wendover 1818 1829, Buckinghamshire 1820 1821, and High Wickham 1831 1838, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire and Colonel of the Royal Buckinghamshire Militia. He married twice, firstly, 17 June 1822, Elizabeth Katherine, daughter of the 1st Baron Forester; and secondly, 10 August 1840, Charlotte Augusta Annabella, younger daughter of Lord Willoughby de Eresby. He succeeded his father in 1838 and assumed the name of Carrington by Royal Licence in the following year. The impression in the Franks Collection may be a leather bookplate
