Stirling, William (1789 -1826)

William Stirling of Keir was the only son of William Stirling, 13th Baronet of Keir and 10th of Cawdor, and his second wife, Jean, daughter and heir of Sir Archibald Stewart 3rd Baronet of Castlemilk. On the death of the 5th Baronet in 1797 he succeeded to the estates of Castlemilk and Milton. A Captain in the 1st Dragoon Guards he served at Waterloo. On 13 March 1818 he married Mary, daughter of John Anderson of London. She died 17 December 1819, and he married secondly, on 1 June 1822, Anne Charlotte, daughter of Sir Alexander Gibson Maitland, Baronet. His son by his first wife, William Stuart Stirling, took the additional name of Crawfurd, and his other son, James Stirling Crawfurd Stirling, took the additional name of Stuart on succeeding his brother in the estates of Castlemilk and Milton.
