Stirling-Maxwell, John, Sir, 10th Baronet, of Pollok (1866 -1956)

Sir John Stirling Maxwell, 10th Baronet of Pollok, was the eldest son of Sir William Stirling Maxwell, 9th Baronet, and Anne Maria Melville, daughter of the 8th Earl of Leven. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took his B.A. in 1894 and his M.A. in 1919. He was Member of Parliament for Glasgow College 1895 1906, and Assistant Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for the Colonies. He married, 12 November 1901, Ann Christian Maxwell, eldest daughter of Sir Herbert Eustace Maxwell, 7th Baronet of Monreith. He was Chairman of the Forestry Commission 1929 1932, and of the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments in Scotland from 1940. He was made a Knight of the Thistle in 1929.
