Whitfield, John (1635 -1691)

John Whitfield of Canterbury was the son of Henry and Anne Whitfield. He practised as a lawyer and was a great benefactor to his native city.  He married Rebecca daughter of Robert Jaques [Jacques] of Elmestone, a former alderman of London, and High Sheriff of Kent, and had six children. He reportedly invented the fire engine.
